How Is It Already June?
Seriously—wasn’t it just New Year’s like… yesterday? One minute we’re shouting “new year, new me” with champagne in hand, and now we’re sweating through our shirts and wondering where the first half of the year went. Time’s fake, right?
Anyway, here we are: halfway through 2025. Whether you’ve crushed your resolutions, forgotten they ever existed, or are still telling people “the year doesn’t really start until February,” now’s a good time to take a breath and look around. What’s working? What’s a dumpster fire? What’s worth dragging into the second half?
Let’s take stock before the holidays sneak back in and we’re crying over gift lists and pumpkin spice again.
The last week of April, I attended the Texas School of Professional Photography near Dallas for the fourth time, and my second year as a "wrangler" for Alison Carlino.
What is a wrangler? My job was to assist the instructor and students, as needed. I focused on equipment, checking it out to students, keeping records, and returning it to Arlington Camera (Arlington Camera Home) in perfect working order. I was usually up by 5 a.m. and out and about until 10 or 11 p.m., as our class of 30 students photographed at eight different locations, six of which were not at the host hotel. We all learn tons, both from the instructor and each other.
2025 marked Texas School's 50th anniversary, and two board members were retiring after 20+ years of service. Thank you, Don and Cindy!
While it is exhausting, I will be back next year! If you aren't learning, you aren't growing, and I truly believe we know better together! Texas School Home Page
Interesting fact: My wife attended Texas School before I did, by winning a scholarship at ImagingUSA in San Antonio in 2017. One of her fellow students from that year was also in the class I was wrangling for!Rhonda and I met at a networking group in Pasadena, Texas, called the Thursday Networking Team. (If you are in that area, check it out sometime! Thursday Networking Team)
She runs a leadership group that develops, coaches, and trains other businesses to be more productive and assertive.
We created some new images for her blog and social media. Special thanks to my photog friend Laura for being a model for us! You can see a few of them on her blog page https://rhondaparmer.com/blog/
These were all done in the studio, and we reviewed them on the monitor as we went along to adjust and fine-tune them. We have a second session lined up for more location images and with another model as a client.
Let's talk whenever you need a refresh or new marketing images for your organization. Potentail clients want to see the face of who they might be working with.
I will be hosting my lighting workshop in the studio in two weeks. Entitled The Magic of Modifiers: Transforming Your Images with Light and Shadow, it allows me to give back to the photography community, as we always want to improve our skills. In return, I will earn my Craftsman degree from Professional Photographers of America when I have earned enough points through teaching workshops.
If you were to look up a translation of photography, you would find that it means to draw (graph) with light (photo). So, to create with light and shadows is essential with whatever one photographs, whether people, pets, objects, or landscapes.
Again, we learn better together, so if you know somebody who might be interested, please share the link below to register. As the examples show below, it will be hands-on with a model.
Thursday, June 26, will be the next headshot mini-marathon in the studio.
You get one complimentary image with your session fee and
savings on additional photos so that you can have a variety of looks throughout the remainder of the year.
Expect 45 minutes of camera time, and we will review your images on the studio monitor. Expect your retouched, edited images within two business days.
$225 plus tax
