Choose a color palette that complements each other. Soft, muted colors like pastels or earthy tones work well. Avoid overly bright or neon colors as they can be distracting in photos.
Incorporate subtle patterns, but avoid overly busy prints. Small florals, stripes, or polka dots can add interest without overwhelming the image. Limit the number of different patterns to keep a cohesive look.
Layers add depth to your outfits. Consider wearing jackets, cardigans, or scarves that you can take off or add, allowing for variety in your shots.
Make sure everyone is comfortable in their outfits. It will show in the photos if kids are fidgety or adults feel restricted.
Select shoes that match the vibe of your outfits. Avoid overly casual footwear like flip-flops unless that's the theme of your session like we're at a park or the beach. Opt for clean, stylish shoes that you can walk in easily.
Accessories can enhance your outfits. Consider hats, necklaces, or other jewelry, but don’t go overboard. Choose a few statement pieces that reflect your family's personality or maybe a piece that has been handed down through generations.
Dress appropriately for the season. For warmer months, light fabrics are ideal. For colder months, make sure to include warm layers and textures that photograph well, like knitwear.
While you don’t have to match exactly, ensure that your outfits coordinate. For example, if one person is in a floral dress, you could wear a solid color that’s found in the floral pattern.
Involve the kids in choosing their outfits. Let them pick something they love, which will help keep them happy and excited during the photo session. Bring them some snacks as well.
Before the session, check for any wrinkles, stains, or loose threads. A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring everyone looks their best!
