 | Welcome to 2021! | | WELCOME! Here we are in 2021 and I'm excited to share some things coming up at Bayou City Photography. There are projects to announce, events coming up, specials to share, and sometimes just a thing to make us laugh. So here we go! | | SIGN UP | A PERSONAL PROJECT - BEING CHOSEN | | Most of my friends know this, but we don't talk about it much. My parents adopted me and my sister through DePelchin Children's Center (https://www.depelchin.org/) as infants. Perhaps that is why I don't often think of it because they are my parents, regardless of biological history. My sister does know her biological mother. To me, knowing my birth mother and father was never a big deal. But our adoption was a big deal to my parents. Anybody who adopts, whether an infant, toddler, or teenage, from within the United States or from overseas, has a lot of love to give and the dedication to raise a child, or in several cases, children. Investing so much time, instruction, patience, money, and sacrifice to guide them to a fulfilling life. | | Those are my parents, Hal and Dianne. They're why I'm doing this project. Just two weeks old, they brought me home from DePelchin Children's Center. Five and a half years later, they adopted my sister, also through DePelchin's. Whether you adopted or were adopted, whether recently or many decades ago, those are stories that I want to share. Each story will include a photo session as well as a Q&A interview and older photos to tell the story for a blog post. A reception will be planned to view the selected portraits and hopefully meet a few families in attendance. If you are interested or know a family that might want to share their story, click below to go to the application form. | APPLY HERE | | The next Headshot Marathon is coming up on Friday, January 22, 2021, at the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce building. A percentage of each session will be donated to the Wheelhouse in Deer Park (https://www.thewheelhouse.org/) to help them continue their work in the community. Each session includes a fully retouched digital image; additional images are available for purchase and there is a buy two, get the third free offer. Online booking is available now and only one session per half hour for social distancing and to disinfect between clients. If you have questions, feel free to contact me. | BOOK YOUR HEADSHOT | WANT TO LOOK GREAT IN YOUR PHOTOS? | Choosing your wardrobe is a huge part of how your portraits turn out. I always do a complimentary consultation with my clients and there are several things that you can do on your own to help your portraits look wonderful and not dated in a few years. Jewel tones are one of my favorites. They mix very well and you don't have to look so matchy-matchy. The three-generation family portrait in this newsletter is a great example with everybody using a slightly different shade of blue, down to the dog's bandana. It looks very classic and will age well for generations. | | This family is another great example, but using neutral tones with little touches of color. A little bit of red draws your eyes to mom and her daughter; their son's shirt is a bit of a jewel tone but sets off his sister's blouse. Mom and Dad are dressed in neutrals and make a great anchor for the portrait. For more ideas, look at Pinterest as the best resource for inspiration for color.
